737s are overhauled every 8 years or so and receive what is known as a C check between 12-18 months depending operator. Saying they are taken apart each year is not quite true.

I was lucky enough to visit Marana, a major storage and disposal facility outside of Tucson, a few weeks ago for work. We drove up and an excavator was chewing on the froward fuselage of a 747.
