To be fair, the end of Mafia II is in the late 50's. So it isn’t a giant leap in logic that the next sequential game in the series (which btw continues Vito’s story), should be set in the following decade.

It’s totally a rental sadly. I rented it from Gamefly and beat it in about 12 hours. There is like very little to do after finishing the campaign.

Interesting review. I want to check out the campaign, but “Pinnacle of FPS’s” is a pretty lofty claim. I’ll have to decide that for myself.

I have to agree with this assessment. I enjoyed the 20 or so hours it took to finish the campaign, but ultimately the game left me wanting a lot more. I was shocked that Lincoln’s only outfit is his military jacket. So much missed opportunity for awesome 60's gangster fashions. And the map, while interesting felt…

So thread necromancy here, but as someone who has also seen a lot of Westerns (btw - your breakdown of the different eras of westerns was pretty spot on.) I have to respectfully disagree. RDR felt less like it was trying to be Western film, but more like a Western serial, or tv show.
