I kinda like it this way.
I kinda like it this way.
That shark/manatee metaphor is genius stuff.
The shows choices are basically go color blind or stick to the book and omit people of color from the show entirely. Neither is ideal, but I'm glad they went this way. We don't need another TV show with all white characters.
The look on Moira's face when Waterford brought her into the room gut me. I was so worried her was going to insist on a threesome or on watching them.
Actually, I've seen a ton of conversations about the way fridge stuff deaths are always female characters that touch on deaths of make characters being presented as less tragic. It has a lot to do with make characters dying bc of their agency and female characters also dying bc of male characters'agency. I.e. the…
He's taking care of an alcoholic parent. I would be out of there faster than you can say "the patriarchy sucks." Actually, it has been me (not alcoholism, but similar stuff), and I have been out of there.
I don't think he goes about and beyond. He's more of an everyman the way June of more if an everywoman than a hero.
Good people work for evil people/ companies all the time. It's just usually a little harder to see the see the evil.
Wouldn't bringing down Waterford hurt June, at least in the short term?
I actually kind of like it being jealousy.
I liked the focus on Nick. The juxtaposition of his backstory and his genuine concern for Offred does a great job highlighting how well meaning, caring people can be complicit in evil too. Nick was at a place many of us have been—he was broke and without the option of following his conscious when it came to his…
I get tired of people accusing me of being overly sensitive bc I don't find certain jokes funny.
I think Portlandia is both woke and hilarious. Portlanders have mixed feelings about it, but more bc it made Portland popular than bc it makes fun of us. Portland/OR has a bad history of shutting out outsiders.
There is absolutely no reason to be against safe spaces if you actually understand why they are. That's like being against trigger warnings. Why wouldn't we want to warn people something could trigger their mental illness, PTSD, or compulsive behavior?
The people who complain about participation trophies are the same people who were handing them out.
I would watch that episode.
Eh, humor is subjective. It's fine to think x is funny but y isn't. I find Russ's family more over the top than funny, but some of the jokes land. UKS does best with its more nuanced characters IMO.
Yes. He falls ass backwards into all his success then convinces himself he can do better. Which could be interesting, except the show seems to agree that a guy who never tries can accomplish anything.
But it's not funny. Comedians claiming "you're too sensitive" when people don't find a joke funny is tired.
I found the romances a lot more awkward this time around. It's basically friendship, friendship, friendship, DO YOU LOVE ME? It's not quite as jarring with your party members, because you see so much of them, and the game throws all of them a bone (why can't I be with Yukuke ;_;), but it's very awkward in some of the…
