I kind of remember this from law school, but I believe they look at the “reasonableness” of the police search and go from there. Like if they execute a warrant on the wrong address the police probably have to pay for the damage. But, if they pull you over and have a “reasonable suspicion” when they search your car…

If you’ve been pulled over for something innocuous like that (and not for something like a high speed chase or brandishing a weapon), you can tell them no. Just like your home, they need a warrant to search your vehicle. They don’t like it, and they’ll try to make you feel guilty for it, but you are within your rights…

If they had apologize, then they would have admitted being wrong. They are never wrong.

This kind of thing happens more often than people want to admit. It’s pretty sad that our police in the United States can completely screw over an innocent civilian and not be held responsible for it. I’m not surprised that this guy wasn’t even apologized to. That is business as usual with law enforcement in the U.S.

Not the way the system should work, but often the Law is above the law.
