The magic smoke came out of my stock setup because a brush hung up so I went with the brushless. They say it’s waterproof but you need to coat it or use a ton of dielectric grease to really make it solid.

That’s a STRC pumpkin cover. The metal axles are awesome, vanquish makes a currie Rockjock but they are dumb expensive. Weight down low is key but the metal axles don’t slide over rocks as well. You can get beef tubes for the axles to get more weight down low. They make them for the SCX10 too.

It wouldn’t be overly hard to build. Tamiya has a RSR tt02 kit. Add some scale accessories that are readily available because of the scale crawler craze (the roof racks looks to be a proline part), some axial light buckets and a few more things and you should be good.

Have the proper tools for the job. If you live in an area that frequently gets snow, get a set of snow tires. Best bet is to get an extra set of rims for the dedicated snow tires. It may seem expensive but it’s far cheaper than the recovery of the car, bent metal and the costs of repairs.

Spend the money on a quality switch. You don’t want to get stuck because you cheaped out on the switch.

Not so much. Find the ground for the fuel pump and put a switch on it. Before you get out of the car, hit the switch and the fuel pump won’t work. They might down the block on the fuel in the line if they nab it right after you get out.
