I’d say that’s a bit of a stretch for a “disaster”. A 3-link solid axle with panhard bar is a very reliable piece, and if done right can give predictable handling (i.e. Boss 302).
And they still xeroxed his driver’s license before he bought every one.
I was thinking the same as you, just give me airbags and ABS. I’m ok with defeatable traction control, too, since I can use it or not.
All cars come with ABS too. Hasn’t it been required since 2011 or so?
No, ABS is mandated by federal safety standards. New cars in the US are no longer available without it.
I’m pretty sure all new cars have ABS (in the U.S. at least). I think traction control is also mandated, or is going to be soon. Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like I read that somewhere.
Do rally lights count as safety tech? Road illumination is important.
That was what I was going to say, I’d like it & its standard equipment now, so I wouldn’t really be paying extra for it. As long as I could disable it via fuse or something.
ABS was mandatory in the US on all cars starting in 2012.
TJ is old tech I think, when did JK come out? 2005ish? That’s 10 years.
It may sound archaic but I wouldn’t pay any extra for safety. I don’t necessarily think it’s a benefit, a bandaid on the bigger issue. Vehicle accident deaths are at an all time low and that’s great, but we’re getting into just as many accidents, possibly more. The safer you feel in your vehicle the more complacent…
