Even the smartest TV shows seem to be obliged to hedge their "there is no god" subtext with a "religionists aren't entirely stupid" Aesop. The last Eureka Xmas episode really pissed me off in that respect.

I don't think I'd call OHMSS the best Bond film, but it's generally agreed to have the best soundtrack, if you want to add a Bond soundtrack to your collection. Just be careful the song "Do you know how Christmas trees are grown" doesn't induce a homicidal rampage.
The Atomic Brain in the sci-fi box was pretty good. The sword and sandal box ("Warriors") and kung fu ("Martial arts") were also good value, though some of the prints were horrible. Plus that fucking Mill Creek logo that pops up on the screen intermittently…
Yes, I have a fascination with "on a train" movies too. A great one is Terror By Night, the last of the Rathbone Sherlock Holmes sequence. It also features the worse attempt at a Scottish accent I've ever heard in a film.
This was better than the recent eps - no major fuck ups, but I remain pessimistic. The terrible inconsistency of tone, character and plot we've seen this season isn't going to suddenly get cured.
Things that bugged me this week:
Dean and his alcoholic sad sack routine. This has been going on for how many seasons now?…
After a couple of seconds, I figured that the photos were deliberately bad. Now I'm just stuck on "why". Is destroying the illusion of the narrative worth the one half-amused snort this gag received?
Pirate treasure?
"Deb *gasp* this is wrong!"
"Shut up and fuck me you motherfucker!"
The only thing better than being right is being smug about it.
This. Drama (and comedy) has to be based in character, to have something beyond novelty value.
Supernatural.
Maybe there's a whole undisclosed subplot about how someone was running a kiddieporn ring through his IP and he got hassled by the cops and they told him "Don't leave town and don't change your IP either in case we need to hassle you again." Y'know?
Peekay, I would watch!
Something something modern marriage…
All I got was that he likes middle aged women.
If Chuck has ascended, there may be a replacement prophet continuing his legacy by becoming a popular fanfic writer. In fact, I'm guessing that's already come up in somebody's fanfic.
Not a fan of this episode, and feeling pessimistic about Supernatural generally now. Their comedy episodes tend to fail, as the writers tend to confuse smug self-referentiality with being, y'know, actually funny (See also the French Mistake).
Agreed. Sometimes they have awesome guesties who we never see again, but hopefully they will pick this guy up. I like to think he was secretly acting on Crowley's orders….
But Fabia was just annoying.
Yeah, the sheer relative cheapness of DVDs means I can see many more movies than I would on Blu-ray (and a good quality DVD (PAL format) looks pretty decent upscaled). So who's the trufan now?
