From all the stories I've heard about Tierney, I think he had some kind of mental illness or developmental disability that probably wasn't recognized in his day and lead him to be an unhinged rageaholic.

You missed the "Part 2" in the headline, huh?
I'll never understand the appeal of that band. Catchy Muzak doesn't do it for me.
Yeah well, he can piss and moan all he wants, but theaters make most of their money on concessions. Of course I think his films only go to a tiny handful of theaters anyway, but the ones that sell popcorn aren't gonna stop because this guy's being persnickety.
Jaws is definitely too well written to be dismissed as blockbuster dreck. It was the start of that trend for that era though so it bears responsibility.
I've never fully understood the whole appeal of Lauryn Hill. I was too young and rockist to give Miseducation a chance when it came out but in the interim I've never quite absorbed what the big stink was with her. Obviously she has a fantastic voice, but what songs grab people? What is her message at that time? All I…
You're thinking 98 with the TRL/boy band/nu metal thing.
Very much agreed. Sometimes I can't help but wonder how much of the idea of "realness" that pervades popular culture, especially in the hip-hop world, is just a paradoxical reaction to the fear of being vulnerable. To perform something with the intent to entertain and resonate with an audience is in its own way a more…
Is that informed at all by knowing about Frank Miller's opinions IRL, do you think?
I love Angry Birds unapologetically for its gameplay, just because the crash physics are oddly stimulating. But there isn't enough of a plot there to adapt.
It's a bad year for movies when there are perfectly valid arguments for movies that were left off Worst of the Year lists. Zoolander 2 was my least favorite of the few I've even seen this year.
There was a deep river of shit to wade through this year.
No.
Jesus Christ I had to actually go and watch this Katya to see what the big stink is. If hammy overacting, terrible one note cartoon accents, and a wall eyed thousand yard stare are the hallmarks of great performance on par with the best TV had to offer? Your taste is in your fucking ass.
Where did I say anywhere that drag isn't my thing? From what I saw of Louie Anderson's performance on Baskets he's wonderful. I loved Rocky Horror and Hedwig. You are PERVASIVELY projecting this idea that the ONLY possible way anyone could criticize RuPaul's Drag Race is because they're small minded bigots who hate…
No one is arguing about drag besides you.
Because I've watched the show and it's a cheesy bullshit reality show. I had forgotten SNL even got mentioned because it's more ubiquitous in these kind of things and thus doesn't stand out as well but yeah, that also probably didn't belong here.
Dolly is the best. I've heard her new live show is great as well. She's a wonderful human being and the world is a better place with her in it.
And if my issue was with drag performance I'd have singled out Louie Anderson getting recognized for Baskets. Don't project, please. I know this place is lousy with Breitbarters these days but I am not them.
My issue is moreso awarding a reality competition show character an honor while ignoring a brilliant piece of televisual theatre. I'm not sure I could ever be convinced reality TV deserves standing next to actual drama.
