You should do a survey of Chinese suppliers and ask how they feel about the 25% Chinese import tariff. Or how about every EU country which imposes a 10% tariff. Oh right, you only started opposing Tariffs when Trump talked about it.

Erik, why has Jalopnik given zero Fs about foreign tariffs that have been imposed on US vehicle imports around the world for many years(such as China’s longstanding 25% tariff), but are now outraged at tariffs? Just curious. I think we all know why.

In what universe is a tired 8 year old Cayenne rental an “exotic”. And who would rent that in the first place?

Congratulations on working in a Trump reference that is in no way contextual with the conversation. Next see if you can work in that 9/11 was an inside job.

This latest update brought to you by the UAW. The negative news will continue until the factory is unionized. Then the factory will be utopia where no one drinks red bull or ends a shift tired, just like our comrades in the unionized factories.

Have you been to Canada? That policeman has probably never met a black man.

I’ve factory ordered several cars in addition to my Model S (BMW, Land Rover). In no case was the deposit less than $5k and in no case was I given a delivery day, only an estimation. I fail to see what the story is here with the exception of people who have no idea what the protocol is for factory ordering a car.

This is the absolute lowest form of journalism and no matter your political persuasion you should find it revolting.

Considering it’s the UAW behind the negative stories fed to the press in their efforts to blackmail Tesla into unionizing, I am not at all surprised. Google the UAW and read up on it’s storied history—murder, extortion, racketeering, shakedowns, tax fraud, the list is impressive. If the UAW were anything less than a

If by ultimately you mean within a week, then yes, ultimately.

Does she also oppose the auto import tariffs that virtually every industrialized nation has? Is she bothered by China’s 25% import tax on cars? It’s like these people just woke up and discovered tariffs on cars.

Cool story except top 1% in the US are overwhelmingly Democrats.

Been to California? A new car for a teen driver is the norm in upper middle class neighborhoods.

Great article, well-written, and the large format pictures are fantastic. I love the large photo-rich format of jalopnik articles lately, at least the ones about cars.

You might want to read up on the issue before posting. US auto manufacturers love Canadian factories because the Canadian dollar is currently worth $.77 US dollars. It is cheap labor, it just happens to be currency-based.

Are you seriously suggesting that presence or absence of corporate america approval should dictate foreign policy? It’s interesting how liberals have become enamored with what corporations want when it happens to oppose the current presidents proposals. Why don’t we just let the President of GM negotiate foreign

Clearly not from California.

Refreshing to see an automotive journalist that doesn’t view crossovers as the spawn of Satan. I happen to like them when they’re done right. The Macan, the new RDX, and the CX 5 come to mind. The CX 5 is just better for it’s intended use than it’s sedan counterparts.
