Have you looked at any real world demonstrations of Apple CarPlay though? From what I've seen it isn't actually an entire operating system, it's more like an application. CarPlay is mirrored on top of the vehicle's existing infotainment systems, I believe QNX only in fact. This might work in the exact same way.
From what I'm hearing, once you plug in your device, it automatically detects the OS and works accordingly.
