Funny you mentioned that, because most “master planned” communities these days seem to be denser, full of sidewalks and with a mixed-use village in the middle....people are wanting that stuff, even in the suburbs.

Vacation =/= daily life. Totally different set of considerations.

All the stars.

I get the contractual reasons for FIA race control doing what it did...but this was still a complete joke. In a world run by logic and not by the vagaries of broadcasting agreements, the race would have been postponed and no points awarded for what amounted to three formation laps. But that’s not the world we live in.

Also worth noting: Martin Brundle said on the broadcast the he’d run several races in similar conditions - and wished he hadn’t. He mentioned one of those Suzuka races in particular. Said they were lucky to have avoided death or serious injury. Not worth it IMHO.

Drivers reported that visibility behind the lead car was nil due to spray from the tires and rear diffusers. Sainz and Ocon said they couldn’t even see the flashing red lights from cars ahead of him. That’s asking for a potentially tragic multi-car shunt if someone ahead loses control, which is only a matter of time

Oh yeah. Many Schumacher detractors love Senna, not realizing they were cut from the same cloth.

True. Though I’m continually amazed at the sheer amount of shit families carry around with them compared to even 5-10 years ago...I suspect some think a third row / bigger vehicle is essential because they just have too much junk...

A few nominations:

Meh. Heavier, uglier, less practical 5 series Touring built to appease questionable Chinese market tastes.

Ease of access is the main reason people I know switched from 3-row crossovers to minivans...easier to get kids, car seats and junk/in out due to bigger doors, lower sill height, larger hatch, easier access to third row, etc.

Great choice. I’ve seen it occur like clockwork - friends have kids, buy crossovers, realize they don’t work too well once the second or third tyke comes along, trade them in on minivans. They’re just plain good at their intended jobs.

Great little car.

It deserves credit for preserving the Mustang line. And to be fair Ford’s hand was forced by the Feds’ boneheaded rollout of new safety and environmental regs (should have been gradual enough to allow automakers to get through an entire model cycle. Read Bob Lut’z book Car Guys v Bean Counters for more details).

Blasphemy, LOL.

If these guys are defining “great” as “objectively good compared to today’s stuff” then yeah, they’re way overrating the cars. But most of the classics we consider “great” - muscle, Euro sports cars, whatever - have nothing on current cars. That’s not why people love them. An Accord 2.0T will outrun a Ferrari 275

I’m going with “all Teslas” as the answer. Not because their cars aren’t good (they moved the EV game way forward, and everyone else is still in certain ways catching up), but because “overrated” doesn’t being to capture the worship they receive from their delusional cult fanbois.

Owned three Mk4s here. Can confirm the 1.8T GTI was an unreliable shitbox. A weirdly lovable one, but still a shitbox!

8 Series was widely viewed as “meh” in its time. Criticized for being too heavy and expensive, while not having the handling chops of a 3er or 5er to match its go-fast looks.

C5? “Dying” is a good choice here, LOL.
