It was only a matter of time before these became ironically cool, because that’s how 21st century pop culture works. Claim that deadbeat shit (purposeful or otherwise) is what’s actually cool, and eventually you can make bank off of it. See: 80s-dad sweat shorts, $1000 ugly-ass dino-stomper shoes, a bunch of Billie…
Nvm the elephant in the room - what is the plan to ensure our power grids can handle tens of millions of additional EVs charging every day? Especially with the Feds and so many blue states pushing “renewable energy” initiatives that don’t address large-scale power generation needs? The grid is already stretched as it…
Agreed, and not surprising at all. Every hot, high-growth industry (PCs, Web 1.0, Web 2.0, weed, cars in the 1900s-1920s, crypto, fracking etc.) always sees a rush of entrants. Many fail, many others are acquired before they make a real mark. Adam Smith prevails. Carmaking’s massive capital requirements will simply…
Ferraris have always been among the fastest cars on the road, but they’ve hardly held a monopoly on speed. Car collectors prize Ferrari above all else because they offer a special experience on top of that. The engine - its noise, responsiveness, the way it builds and builds to redline, and on newer cars how it…
Agree and disagree. Without knowing his enthusiast cred, it’s important to have someone with knowledge of and passion for cars. Ferrari’s swag business only works because people love the F1 team and find the cars highly desirable. They can’t afford to have either one flounder long-term.
Never mind that gas-powered offshore powerboat racing regularly exceeds 140mph...
Kudos to Ford for keeping the price down. Even the Lariat falls under the average new car price, and new truck prices are getting nuts. Gives it some real separation from the Ranger and F-series. A $35-40k truck would have likely failed, as people would have simply spent a bit more for a Ranger/Colorado/Tacoma or even…
This does reek of people yelling racism without any decent evidence, a very 2020/2021 thing to do. And I’m generally suspicious of government laws/regulations by default.
Bed length is IMHO among the best arguments for sucking it up and buying a full-size. That extra bed space is clutch when hauling kayaks, paddleboards, long pieces of lumber, etc.
Jalop’s manual-transmission, single-row regular cab truck craze boggles my mind.
So? I don’t “need” a 500hp turbo inline-6, carbon ceramic brakes or full merino leather interior either, but it’s sure nice to have.
Every Carolina Lean/Squat I’ve seen on the road has been driven by a white guy under age 40
Beautiful but dangerous, kind of like 80s and 90s Italian cars. From what I understand Astons of this era are far more prone to problems than their Ferrari and Lambo rivals (never mind Porsche), with repairs just as expensive.
Wow. Had forgotten about that thing. Colossal fail on M-B’s part for not building this. Surely they could have made a couple hundred and raked in obscene profits?
Media reports claim the first one was bought by a couple in the music industry. Based on some of the info here (including the Ace of Spades champagne references), I’m willing to bet $ Jay-Z and Bey are the buyers.
There’s another word for these people: morons. Just like the George Floyd rioters and the January 6 “Stop the Steal” rioters.
I saw two Veyrons flanking a Chiron at Prestige Imports in Miami a couple years ago. Very interesting side-by-side comparison. The Veyron is remarkably subtle next to its successor. The Chiron is barely larger dimensionally, yet looks huge in comparison. The styling - especially the headlights, the C-shaped side…
Yeah. That’s what blew me away about the Veyron when seeing it live. It seemed small next to an Aventador and 918 Spyder. Yet somehow it stuffed that giant engine, that huge gearbox and all those radiators, plus a very comfortable cabin, into a relatively small car. Very efficiently packaged.
I actually don’t mind the sound. It lacks the roar of a V12 Lambo or the wail of a LaFerrari...it’s more a menacing rumble. Not trying to draw attention to itself, but very clearly telling you it has mega power. If you’ve ever heard an offshore powerboat with twin V8s peel out, the Veyron sounds a LOT like that.
