In a way, I agree with your point... timed exclusivity deals are bullshit, and whether it's a tactic of 'good business' or not is irrelevant to my interests, as a consumer it embitters me towards the company that engages in said practices (and on consoles, both of the major platform holders are guilty)...

We're seeing similar things in the music and film industries too. What it boils down to is publishers wanting to retain complete control of the market, pushing for legislation that grants them more power to exert their control.
