I agree that it’s unsafe, to say the least. I don’t make a habit of passing on the right, but when someone is hogging the left lane and clearly has no intention of changing back to the right lane even when it is clear? Yeah, I will, especially if they’re holding up traffic.

Yeah... well they do run long shifts and longer distances and drive in their bedrooms. I’d get fairly sleepy, myself.

Ok... just you change the tune here: I actually haven’t been a passenger with too many ‘bad’ drivers. One incident does jump out from a company trip to Toronto where one guy rented a car and volunteered to drive. I trust him and he’s a good driver, but on that trip he decided he was going to tailgate everyone

Ah....a surefire tell. The gold ones are a special kind of warning. I heard cops will never pull over a car with a gold AAA sticker on the back, but that might be an urban legend.

Can confirm.... And this isn’t jealousy speaking... that luxury car drivers are among the worst. An ex of mine tried to justify it by saying that they drive the cars to be seen in them, not because they performed better. I said it doesn’t matter, when you’re being an ass you’re being an ass.

I think he beat me to it. Probably on a computer.

It has been common for quite some time. I will admit that it looks sharp... but it would be better if you could actually see the brake lights. Some of them you can’t even see tail lights at night.

What you did there, I see it.

x2 for semis that drift lanes. I do understand that it’s a lot more difficult to drive an 18 wheeler or a super b, but fuck me do I get edgy when I see those wheels cross the line.

There might be something to that... you know, as a general perception. When my Jeep was shiny and new, it seemed like other drivers were always in my pocket... Even though I, admittedly, wasn’t confident enough in the vehicle for them to be in tight formation with me, they didn’t seem to mind being close.

Drivers who hog the left lane. Even ‘good’ drivers are guilty of it and they can go into road-rage mode when they get passed on the right.

Good point. I don’t have much experience with Virginia, but out of province plates usually indicate that someone is in unfamiliar territory and needs a bit more room.

I didn’t say it didn’t make any sense at all...I actually ended up picking a different SUV for most of the same reasons plus the extra cargo space. It just struck me as more of a ‘you may as well be driving a car than an SUV’ because it is actually quite confined in there. I was driving a Passat at the time and it

True story, when I was shopping for an SUV the Tiguan made the short list. I went and checked one out and it didn’t even make it to the test drive because it was actually horrible and the cargo area was too small.

Yup, ‘Hey guys, hold my beer. Check out this transbrake thing.’

I just thought of another aspect to it. You could award bonus points for emergency roadside repairs... Like, changing a tire, five points. Rebuilding a head gasket? Maybe 7 points. Points deducted for calling a tow truck or getting a citation.

I am in complete agreement. Like, I’m okay with them using their own vehicles as long as there’s a time trial/staggered start thing to keep it fair. I would even be willing to accept simulation lap times as qualifiers.... But I would prefer to see them all on the same course with the same vehicle.

And there’s a reason these conflicts continue to this day.

And slippery, too. The first thing I noticed when I went back to cloth seats was that I no longer had to fight to stay in the seat in turns.

You’re right... wool actually is the best all around, even on warm days. I have heard a lot of people swear by it for camping even in summer. It insulates better, and keeps insulating even when wet. Breathes nice and doesn’t chafe if it’s felted properly.
