My mother told me a few years ago that the USPS was starting Sunday deliveries, funded entirely by Amazon’s deliveries. Is that actually the case?

Same. Sad, but not at all surprised given everything I’ve heard over the years about what a nightmare it was to work with him.

The United States is the only nation on earth where this many people (close to 40,000) die every year by gun. What might the difference be between the US and everywhere else that makes this so?

You know who else loved dogs???

Thanks to a tip from the Wonktariat, I heard that 538 has the poll numbers, and that they significantly oversampled Olds and self-identified Republicans.

It really is a pity that Sweden, a racially homogeneous (mostly) country with a tiny population, and consequently a mild xenophobia and also a simmering problem with neo-nazis, makes (as a result of all of this) it so hard to emigrate there. It seems like a really nice place.

Disown and block them all. Never speak to them again. If your sibling refuses to respect your wish not to be confronted with racist assholes, disown and block your sibling. Peace out on all that shit, and enjoy your newfound life unburdened by racist pieces of shit.

Let’s hope they let them have a union this time. Looks good, as Gothamist was bought by some public radio stations (who are known pinkos).

He is, but watching the smile melt off his face when Tiff snubbed his dad was pretty nice.

My first babysitter came from a family in which she was the fifth generation of daughter born to a 14-year-old. Her grandmother wasn’t even 30 when she was born. They were good, decent people, and took in a lot of foster kids on top of their own despite modest means, but also pretty religious and, uh … old-fashioned.

Mr. Rogers used silence to great effect:

Also worth noting: the reason this rally is on Constitution Avenue (?) in DC, and not on the Mall, is that the very same day protest organizers filed their application, a “nonprofit student filming” of a talent show, requiring “one SUV, seven cameras, and a few bikes” filed one for the Mall, and took precedence:

As always, this Onion headline is timely:

Might be a bit late, but if you’re still heading into DC, Claude Taylor — who has been spending the past few months crowdfunding awesome anti-TreasonWeasel billboards across the country, including a giant IMPEACHMENT NOW one right on the motorcade route to Mar-a-Lago — is at the Tacoma/DC Metro station handing out

DH Lawrence savaged bullfighting over a century ago for the loathsome spectacle it is. Why people still romanticize it I can only surmise is desperate clinging to machismo culture and needing an outlet for inner cruelty.

Please refrain from romanticizing animal torture. Thanks.

Would have been nice if you’d just embedded the CSPAN feed where you can actually see the hearing instead of some slickly produced supercut of sick burns or whatever. Here:

I am very much looking forward to this being spun as Obama’s fault.

Not directed by Villeneuve, which earns it some early side-eye from me. But it is being directed by (one of?) its screenwriter, who did Wind River (which I just watched last night for this reason and which was … pretty OK), so … maybe it won’t be terrible?

Bonus points for using the music from another wonderful moment of beauty in fraught times: the soundtrack for Man on Wire, the documentary of Phillippe Petit’s walk across a wire strung between the Twin Towers.
