Well I think the logical extension to the “why didn’t he just fly there” question is that he wouldn’t have to pass thru any form of customs, so your “this way he wasn’t declaring himself to the magical community” comment falls a little flat. He’d be equally non-declared if he just snuck over.
Ya know, that makes a lot of sense. Abin Sur would be a great choice for who should show up, as he could be the hero that is killed off to establish that the Big Bad is indeed big and bad.

It isn’t terribly likely that CW’s app (or website) will move towards a subscription system; aside from the fact that doing a bait-and-switch would absolutely gut them from the inevitable user loss, there’s also the fact that they are a much, much smaller network than the Big Four.
Uh, the CW app is a steaming pile of shit compared to the Hulu (or Netflix) apps.
