Not only is that a correct characterization, and the fig leaf a cowardly c.y.a. that only makes him look worse, the b.s. “brave journalism” is not something someone who wasn’t in the situation gets to point to or complain about the lack of, it’s essentially saying again that he was right and a “brave” correspondent…

The phrase “brave journalism” was not always limited to personal essays about romantic relationships.

Look, I don’t know you and I don’t know Alanis. But when I ask someone to do something, and they tell me they feel their personal safety is at risk, I don’t push them. Especially when they say “no” repeatedly and forcefully, to the point of going all caps on it. And especially when I’m their boss.
