    "THIS IS THE END"

That had a lot of the problems this series has had - cliched choices, sudden changes of tone, and the worst crime: the decision that particular scenes need drama, regardless of whether it helps the story or not.

See that's how Carter operates. "We need some drama right about now… Fight scene?" "But Chris, we don't need the fight scene". "But we do need DRAMA, for god's sake PLEASE keep up".

His uncle Agent Spender injected him with metal which, apparently, stops telekinesis in its tracks.

That joke only works if the ship was operating in gravity pulse mode.

"I told you you were GROUNDED!"

That definitely explains the way they have chosen to use some unbelievably cliched camerawork choices in this revival. It's like someone came from the 90s and said "you can do WHAT? Place a camera ON THE BODY? Go in for extreme close ups while Scully is sitting at a desk? Make it look like you're looking through an

Actually if they did that, it really would tie some of the more bizarre mythology stuff together - like the way William was either going to lead the alien colonists (why?) or was going to lead resistance to it.

I actually don't agree that they don't hold up. They're remarkably consistent - sure, there are issues cos the series went on longer than Carter had originally planned for, but even the later episodes are consistent with the story from the earlier ones. It does end up being quite convoluted (aliens directed human

I just couldn't believe that they morphed her into a fricking ALIEN at the end of the recap. I spluttered out loud at that. As soon as I saw it - as soon as I realised that Chris Carter thought it was a good thing to do to his character - I knew there was no way this episode was gonna pull back from the threat of it

And in an episode that had so much to do, to spend THAT long on it was just absurd.

Also: I really hate the music in every episode. It seems they decided to completely abandon the fantastic atmospheric synth stuff that was so iconic throughout the original run. I really miss it.

Nerd-spot: the table that Mulder was laying on while he was getting 50-shaded by Lauren Ambrose, that was the table alien abductees got put on when taken aboard ships in early episodes wasn't it? I'm thinking mostly of "Jose Chung", but I'm sure I saw it other times too.

The part of the episode that got me the most was after Mulder arrived at the hospital. He and Scully were in different worlds - he was talking about the case the case the case, and explaining why he couldn't stay (cos the creature was gonna kill again).

I've seen it and sadly I don't agree with your interpretation, as much as I want to. It seems that Anderson pulls her jacket together while she says "whoah", and then immediately laughs loudly: she had been hugging Duchovny in the scene, so I think it was just a comment on something that happens right at the end - it

And when he spoke to Scully on the phone at the grave site, he said "I've fallen off the wagon", which traditionally refers to someone who has stopped drinking but slips up and gets drunk again.

The thing that jarred more than anything else was when Scully said "Uber?" when she saw Mulder. Whatever their intentions were, it came across so badly. It would be cool if they intended it to be a caustic comment on the damage caused by the 'sharing economy', but it was probably intended to be played for laughs. And

I think classic Scully up to season 8 would, but there was this gradual shift in her character - she became quieter, more upset, more tense, more shouty, crying more and more often (and, as much as I didn't like it, being an absolutely amazing actor in every episode). Kind of fair enough given what the story was, but

Some people have a strange mental quirk that makes them adopt the accent of the people they're around. I've seen it with a few different people and it's always seemed weird, like it must be false cos why would the brain do that? But it does indeed do that for some people.
