RMT is no angel but is no devil either. Eve online did they best job on this - they simply become their own exclusive RMT broker.

The app crowd is fickle. If investing $1 per unique visior can give the app a rating of 5 stars, it should be spent.

There is no solution. The only solution is to suck it up buy more processing capacity than you would need, push everything that can be done client-side (e.g. Google map API calls) to the client, and hope these can be put up overnight, if not in seconds. Otherwise you have your ratings dropping like a fly like now.
