I was a fan of the modified S-3. Faster, more modern, capable of doing more missions and covering all jobs short of vertical landing. But in the end I think it comes down to two factors.

That's not unusual.
Organized crime tends to favor gun laws and regulation because it makes things easier for them. If no ones armed then the mafia doesn't need guns. It can slap the hell out of you at its leisure and has the manpower to do so.

Think of it less like a "truck" and more like a jeep.

Price and efficiency for people with no budget or friends?
I think we've found the millennial mule everyone else has been trying to make.

R-2 finally says what everyone's known for decades: Luke is a terrible pilot.

These things sound useful yet unreliable and expensive at the same time.

That's the thing tho, you've already paid for it.
You're paying for all those missions you don't see, and here they've happened to arrange one you do.

China's interest is in all those island nations of the indian and pacific region.

Cool thought, but this does show alot of hubris on Turner's part.
Short of nuclear war in the near future, its a safe bet that humanity and the world will outlast a cable network. Its just a business who's future in the industry is as vulnerable as any other.

the original plan was for destiny to be a ten year project.

To be fair it's got a glass cockpit.

There should be a stiff punishment.

I think there are some roles where crossover is possible. I made that argument in the tread about the V-22 refueling modifications (not much difference between a long range tanker and a long range transport).
For combat aircraft I agree its not as simple.

here's a thought: make an new a-10 and integrate all this stuff into that. This leaves you free to use the f-35 as a multirole/export and then replace it during the next upgrade cycle. Solving multiple issues at once with a less expensive CAS platform.

I've never actually played a phonix or layton game but I'm pretty sure it does.

To aim around a corner you'd need to see around a corner, tho. Lore wise I think they were only getting around the problem of cheek weld with the rifle (because helmets).

The system your referring to that's being designed for real life use.

there's other technology coming.
