Actually, what I found appalling about the situation with the blind guy, was that it was a platform full of people that just watched him walk over to the edge and fall just as the train was coming. He CAN hear people! They could have grabbed him or warned him, but they did nothing. Truly horrifying.

As an urban planner/former intern architect, I find it hard to believe that there would be any public transit platform in this state that doesn’t have truncated domes (the raised bumps). They’re required by code for people with disabilities.

Except that it wouldn’t save that blind guy, because you know, video.

They need to make a PSA so AHoles don’t blast their music on the train. We all don’t want to hear your jams.

Honestly, they should just play that episode of Homicide: Life on the Streets with Vincent D’Onofrio in their stations, on a loop. That will keep commuters far away the edge of the platform.

Anytime I complain about this sort of stuff it’s a chorus of people asking me why I don’t just switch jobs (again), as if this problem isn’t everywhere.

I recently gave a presentation on the wage gap at my company. Not even 5 minutes into the presentation, some guy interrupts me (during a fucking presentation to the entire company!) to start debating where I got my information from.

Fuck that. I think you need to raise the issue with your boss, and point out that your counterpart needs to do this shit, too.

Yes. This is one of those things that I just wasn’t prepared for, even though, I received a lot of explicit feminist instruction when I was younger: When you are a woman, your life is on a different track, time wise. Even though we typically get a few more years on this planet, we don’t get the second or third chances

Increasingly I am convinced that the wage gap is an exploration gap. When you’re in your 20s, your exploration of knowledge is appreciated because its cute. But at that stage I think that the sharing of knowledge constitutes a type of grooming.

Paternity and Maternity leave needs to be mandatory, then the only way you can really discriminate is by preferring childfree men and women, which, honestly, is kinda fair.

Wow, this is exactly how I feel. Every day. All day. I’m also 32.

No shit, I bring our new CEOs up to speed on everything when they inevitably turn over every few years. They’re sent to me to learn about our company, our clients, our operations, etc. And I nearly was fired last year for putting my foot down about getting a raise that had been verbally promised to me for 15 months.

My sister has been at her company for 3 years. They just hired a guy to do a similar role as she does. She brought him up to speed on the company, industry, and his role. She answers all of his questions. She corrects his work. And the dude STILL talks down to her, still takes credit for things while giving her no

Its just because they know your uterus will explode with a baby before too long and you’ll leave them high and dry for the 6 weeks they allow you to take leave.

Right?! I’m in my mid 30s and recently considered making a career switch. Doors were pretty firmly closed. I could have shoved them open, but ug.

I’m 32. I’ve spent 2016 panicking that if I don’t get promoted like, tomorrow, I’ll be “too old” to ever move up. Meanwhile my male “counterparts” with half my experience and expertise and who are younger than I by a good 5 years are being promoted with lightning speed. It’s hard not to assume it’s because I’m an old

The firm recommends using blind screening for promotional decisions and pushing for equal-paid parental leave for both men and women as a way to close the gap.

I’m exactly 32 and what I’ve noticed, moving into my 30s, is that opportunities to cross train, to learn new skills and to have new experiences are suddenly closed to me. When my father was my age he transitioned to a whole new career. I see men all around me who are my age make career jumps based on new interests and

Oh look, another study for the “No Shit” file.
