I agree, although I do really like A Moveable Feast. It's beautiful and sincere, if in a totally self-centered, revisionist way.

Agree, but I would set it alongside Mockingbird, Gatsby, Lonesome Dove, and dark horse alternate A River Runs Through It, even though it's a novella.

    No. Lonesome Dove.

The less cranky (and much better, in my opinion) choice in a similar vein is Lonesome Dove.

I'm glad to see that she's working, too. That one scene in Whale Rider where she performs at school makes me cry every time.

It's a sweet story with a great soundtrack. It's a well done grilled cheese sandwich of movie. Plus, Frances McDormand forever.

This article just made me watch the movie on YouTube in bed this morning as I nurse my cold. I'd never seen it before.
    That was pretty goddamned charming.

I used to use the proposal scene when I taught English language lessons. It was a blast. Everyone from all cultures could relate.

That's really interesting and now I want to find more working class romantic comedies. It must be difficult to impart a feel-good tone when your characters are struggling to pay the bills.

I still love Overboard. You do have to do a fair amount of ethical gymnastics to make it work, but I find that it's worth it. Ha

The Philadelphia Story forever. Except for that slightly shit eating ending, it's just the best. Jimmy Stewart and Katharine Hepburn made drunken arguing adorable and funny, which is a huge feat.

I liked Results and I'll watch anything that Guy Pearce is in, but I had such a hard time with the Cobie Smulders character that it almost ruined it for me. That last scene with the waitress…
    What an asshole.

I tried to read the first book and had to quit halfway through. The double whammy of fiercely unlikeable characters and its taking a big dump on a thinly veiled Narnia (my childhood favorites) made it too much work for me to enjoy. I can see the merit in it, but I just couldn't stick it.

The only time anyone has been that hot in a pair of sweatpants.

Ditto, Bottle Rocket because I used to work in that bookstore. Also, I like that it's the same style and humor he's known for but more subtle.

The Philadelphia Story. It's old as hell but it still makes me laugh. Also, Moonstruck.

I liked it. I thought it was beautiful and often campy fun. I can't speak to how good or bad Jessica Chastain's accent was but I loved her in this. She gave good crazy eyes and I almost felt sorry for her character.
    Hunnam's accent was terrible, though.

Lots of rambling jam band tunes. String Cheese Incident, Phish.
I like folk music so I have an adult attention span, but I had a hard time making it through those mixes.

When I was younger I had an idiot pothead boyfriend who made the most boring mix tapes imaginable. He loved The Big Lebowski and for that reason I didn't see it until about two years ago.
So much wasted time…although I still cannot fault my reasoning.

He's goddamned adorable in Obvious Child.
