Yes it did. Game of Thrones did manage to become bigger than The Sopranos in terms of viewers and Emmy nominations. And that’s a fact. The 2010’s was Game of Thrones. 

And The Sopranos still didn’t gain the type of numbers and cultural phenomenon that GoT managed to get. 

In terms of viewership numbers, it was HBO’s most successful and popular show. 

Didn’t this happen in the book as well? If so, then the creators would of had to change Jamie as a character and piss off the purists of the books. I guess that would of been better, but it’s not always good to piss off the book fanatics.
