People use the "how much is your time worth" thing a lot weather is comes to driving for gas or doing your own work around the house. The problem with that argument is if your not getting paid during that time then your time is worth $0. And then some of us are salary so our time doesn't matter.

You don't need to OCR documents to tag them, image files have EXIF or ITPC fields which you can tag their information. I fo that now, set the date and time to what was on the receipt/statement and fill in a couple of the fields.

I prefer to leave my scans in .tif format unless there is some need to OCR. Its smaller than pdf to start with plus its much easier to convert something to a pdf than it is to convert from pdf to something else. So I follow the rule of the most basic format that will work.
