One thing I did in the past when I had a lot of crap on a desk was to buy a small PC case and stick them all in it. Instead of a bunch of drives in USB cases I stuck varying drives inside a nice little minitower pc case with USB to IDE adapters and threw in a USB hub. That way I had one power cord for the pc power…

The label once are great. I have put them on plastic kitchen containers and ran them through the dishwasher and they come out clean and ready to write on again and have never had one come off yet.
Question for those that have one, do any of the USB ones show up as a simple printer or do they all require Windows only drivers? Can you print fonts/graphics/etgc or are you limited to the fonts in the labeler?
@Fish McGill: the biggest limitation of the avery labels is they can be worn off and are not water resistant. The labelers like these brother seal the text in with a layer of clear over top.

The thing a labeler does better than using a pen is it won't wipe/wear off since there is a layer of clear on top of it. Even the best permanent marker will wear off after a while.
I've gone to as paperless as possible. Most Banks and other services will let you download pdf statements, then you use a simple tool to tag the pdf metadata how you want.
My office is the same way. So I typically have to end task a few times a day because web sites like lifehacker link ads that are animated or contain popups which crash IE. If the IT shop won't allow a decent web browser then they probably won't allow plug ins to IE either.
The problem I have with these kind of labelers is after a couple years you can never find the label tapes for them, then you have to buy a new labeler.
Use the metadata. Instead of trying to rename the file, make sure the metadata such as author, title, keyword, etc are filled in. These can be used independantly of the file name to provude easier ways to tag and sort.

Virtual PC/vmware lets you run both os's at the same time where a dual boot you can only run one at a time.
One thing that a lot of people miss is you CRT monitor requires a little bit of current to keep the tube warm to extend its life so if you switch it off and on with an external strip then you shorten its life as well.
Belkin surge protectors are the worst at protecting from surges, at least recommend an APC or Tripplite.
Go with the smaller companies who value you as a customer. After filing claims with larger companies like Allstate I learned your just wasting your money buying insurance from them, you might as well not have any because they will find every reason to deny giving you $, even if you paid for the replacement cost rider.
