careful on definations here. 4 wheel drive isn't the same as full time 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive. Plan old 4 wheel drive on a modern vehicle makes less than 1mpg difference.

steph, it depends on the vehicle. My old 4cly it was like you descrived, my v8 you can turn it off and on and not feel the difference. The AC takes such a small fraction of the the available HP/torque from some engines that it makes less difference than having the window drag.

I have found that using the A/C on mine makes no measurable difference, I haven't driven with the windows down enough to accuratly tell on that part.

The A/C vs windows down will depend on a lot of factors such as vehilce size/weight/drag/efficiency and speed.
