I bought myself a nice new laptop with XP on it and XP was such a disapointment from windows 2000 that I ended up switching to Linux. Looking at the info on Vista I don't see any reason to use it. I have to use XP on my office

Do you know for sure your data is safe? Does the web app provider have a DR plan? Do they guarentee that your data is recoverable? What is there SLA for uptime?

Keeping the receipts with the manuals isn't very good advice, manuals get lost easily and then you loose the receipts. Keep the receipts in a small fireproof safe so if you have a house fire/flood/whatever you can go dig out that safe and drop it on your insurance adjusters lap for when they try to get out of paying

I'm on laptops at home as well, though I used to have a UPS for the network gear whose battery recently died. There is nothing like using the power company's web site to report the power it out to your home from you systems still running on battery.
