No, not so much a miracle given that Bethesda spent time porting the game down. You can run Doom fairly well (medium settings, 30-45fps) on an intel i5 NUC with integrated graphics. And that’s without the work that went into making the port. 3hrs of runtime on a 8ah battery including the screen, with wifi turned on…
I played it through on a handheld PC and it’s a great fit for a mobile device. Glad to see it coming to a wider audience!
I think a big part of the problem is the kind of studio HM is. A 50 person studio is going to have tons of overhead and can’t really survive on 1 or 2 smaller titles.
I didn’t think so, it has its tense moments but I got through it okay. Though I did have one false start and ended up starting over from scratch. Took it slowly and prioritized increasing the size of my pouch so that I could carry more in the early game which helped by the end.
Played this at the NYU games lab; god was it frustrating. Really fun though especially with a room full of other players/hecklers watching over your shoulder
Played through it on a handheld PC (so a bit of a hybrid between playing it on a larger screen and playing it on the Switch) not too long ago and while I made it through and enjoyed the experience I would have loved the improvements and hope they’ll backport them to the PC version.
Installed fine from Steam for me, didn’t get too much time to play this weekend but go through the first island.
Just going to leave this here...
Analogous to what you’re saying, I’ve been working on making DIY gaming hardware (basically a steam portable) which has been on my wishlist for years. Been working on the current iteration for about 1.5yrs and its made me appreciate just how hard it is to make a PSVita or Switch. Had a couple hundred kids play with my…
Could always build yourself a retro portable. $50-75 and an afternoon’s worth of work give or take. I’ve been replaying some of the classics on my morning commute.
Saw this at the NYU games center...so so frustrating to play...
SOTN was definitely the game that got me playing Castlevania again (and influenced one of my college design projects), but all these years later it’s the GBA/DS entries in the series that I remember most fondly.
And people tell me I’m crazy when I say my steam portable is about $600 worth of parts alone...
Didn’t realize Phantom Trigger was on the Switch, in that case yes, it definitely borrows even more from HLD. HLD would be a great fit on the Switch though. I played (though haven’t finished) it on a 6" handheld PC and it was perfect for playing on the go.
Agreed; they’re super similar aesthetically. I haven’t played Kamiko but gameplay vids make them seem very similar gameplay-wise as well.
No compromises:
That’s the big catch-22 isn’t it? The argument is that there’s no money in targeting a wider fanbase because there aren’t enough women in gaming while at the same time there aren’t that many women in gaming because the market doesn’t really make space for them. The funny part is having more women in gaming would do so…
