So is Jonah gonna keep falling upwards to the White House? He's now got a political girlfriend (soon wife?) who's gonna whip him into shape and make him do the things he needs to do to get ahead with his straight white male privilege.

It's because the characters were so well developed before. It's always been a character driven sitcom, but it's now even more so.
