Good for you. I loved it, many other people loved it. I didn't suggest that every movie I listed there would appeal to every single person. Tastes differ.
I respect the hell out of Hawke as an actor, but I disagree completely with him about Logan. It wasn’t just great as a superhero film, it was great as a film period. Sure, it’s got a guy with metal in his hands. It’s also got Sir Patrick Stewart giving one of the most heartbreaking and affecting performances about…
... BUT if I had to pick a favorite Bill McNeal moment, it’d be the episode where he keeps popping up with a piano to sing terrible political songs while Dave is running around trying not to lose his job at Lorelai Gilmore's behest, culminating in Bill coldcocking Paul Gleason.
The ending of that episode, with the barrage of canes ("this one displeases me," "this one I'll keep") is one of the most brilliant bits of comedy. But there are so many great moments from NewsRadio, it's hard to pick favorites.
I’ll honestly never get over Hartman’s death. He’s one of the most talented comedians who ever lived and whenever I think of all the great laughs he wasn’t able to give us over the past 20 years, it’s saddening.
This is a great list and I agree with much of it (and boy, 98 was a great year for film), but here are some honorable mentions that would probably make my own list:
Univision executives will eat cake and then punch all the remaining commenters in their faces.
“Jon Hamm is headed into a zone of danger"
Yes. It's also what I was going to say.
“Riley asserts that Stallworth and his colleagues in the FBI’s Counter Intelligence Office spent far more time trying to bring down black radical groups than they ever did screwing with the KKK.’
If the studios really want a good vampire adaptation for TV, they should nab George R. R. Martin’s Fevre Dream, about vampires on steamboats on the Mississippi River and in New Orleans.
The person I was replying to suggested a guilty plea. That can't happen without a complainant reporting a crime.
I never once claimed anyone was a liar or that anything didn't happen. Nice try, though.
Sure. The police absolutely need to take reports of abuse seriously, as do prosecutors.
People need to go to the police with crimes if they want others to plead guilty to crimes.
I can't see Scott pulling off Westworld or The Last of Sheila.
The Maltese Falcon.
That’s a completely irrelevant point, but thanks.
I’d throw in Matt Damon in The Departed. While he had played a bad guy in The Talented Mr. Ripley, by 2006 he was much more widely known for the heroic action star roles or Mr Nice Guy roles. And he played off both of those images in The Departed by being a terrible villain who went undercover as a heroic cop and a…
