I have a friend who actually puts E85 in his tank, he says he does get less mileage, however it's insignificant next to the almost 1$ per gallon discount by filling with E85 over Unleaded Regular.

Only put Premium in your car if the owner's manual instructs you to. Your car sets it's own Octane needs (fuel/air mixture) not using the proper gas/octane rating, leads to a performance issue along with a "knocking" sound. Some cars can adjust their fuel/air sensor for different octanes over time.
