For good order, not all Libertarians are conservative, but I think you’re right. There is a Victorian perception that if you are born wealthy you deserve it and if you’re poor it’s because you’re a bad person that needs to work harder and be happy you have your health or some Dickensian bullshit like that.
“passed”.
The way I understand it, a LOT of conservatives seem to equate poverty with a moral failure on the part of the “poors”. Which is really, really weird when they also claim to “love Jesus”... who supposedly only owned the sandals on his feet and the clothes on his back.
Whaaaaaat? This has not been my experience. I mean, I’ll give you libertarian, but not liberal. That said, my experience with people who describe themselves as libertarian tend to skew racist.
Libertarian = racists who can spell.
For what’s probably the seven-thousandth time, it’s not the age. Those white boys who frightened little Rachel were teenagers. One of the corollary descriptors in “systemic” is “not going to die out with the old people; must be a systemic fix that includes early teaching”.
They say they’re socially liberal but enforcing those socially liberal practices would require government involvement which, oh no, we can’t have that!
Oh, for sure. I’ve found that in the Sacramento area, people generally adopt a “stay out of my way and I’ll stay out of yours” attitude, but it’s usually coupled with that cowardly brand of low-level racism that doesn’t go out and hang a noose in a tree, but does worry about “those people”, usually in conjunction with…
Generally white libertarians are socially liberal on some stuff, usually their vice of choice, but they are likely on the “racist to white supremacist” spectrum and they definitely hate poor people.
And Sacramento/Elk Grove is in the more “liberal”/“libertarian” area of CA, too. This isn’t a problem that’s limited to conservative areas, it’s widespread and pernicious.
Globalism is our country’s path to Utopia. The earth is becoming one big business with the U.S. set as the executive/management branch, eventually leading to the majority of its citizens not having to work (as long as capitalism is eventually suppressed). Republicans fear change, therefore they cannot see the “long…
You know that the estate tax taxes assets, not just money, right?
It’s weird how people assume there is some magical ability rich people posses which makes them able to avoid any and all laws which might mean they have less money. I wonder why the very rich spend so much time and effort buying a political party which spends most of its time making it easier for the rich to make and…
Only poor people suffer when they don’t get to experience the dignity of work. Rich peoples’ dignity is not impacted by being free from the need to work.
Defending the status quo is just being a Pragmatic Progressive. If a change was good it would have happened already because we live in the best of all possible worlds.
They’d probably have to take out a 100% collateral loan against all of their assets, to be paid off later after paying the tax amount. Even just selling the assets to pay the taxes might not be enough if you had to sell them quick and at a discount. Of course, it’d be much easier for super-rich folks to both do this…
Did anyone at least skim through HamNo’s article? What he’s arguing for is a top rate of 100%, not simply confiscating all of the deceased assets. I would explicitly exempt certain assets, like farm real estate, certain classes of family businesses, etc., but apart from that, I think he’s spot-on. Put that money back…
As someone who will never receive a dime of inheritance, all I see is a bunch of fucking whiny babies complaining about money they never earned.
No estate tax means it’s far easier to build up dynastic wealth that persists over many generations, furthering inequality and going a long way towards entrenching a permanent class of heirs and heiresses who wield vast financial and political power for no good reason except luck of birth.
