The refs are supposed to call the play dead the instant the puck touches the net. The point here is the refs missed the call of it hitting the net. 

Then netting is not part of the regulated ice surface. It’s a safety measure to protect fans from pucks traveling off the ice surface (why many local rinks now have netting all the way around).  If you want it to be playable, why not put a glass dome over the ice and we can watch real life bubble hockey.

In a word yes.  If the puck touches the netting it’s out of play and play should halt.
