Because I live on an island with no Apple store. That means if there is an issue you have to actually send the computer off in the mail and not have it for over a week. When you need the computer for work, that's too long.
I'm not trying to do anything, but I've had a few friends who have had to send their MacBooks off to an "Apple approved technician" for stuff like replacing the keyboard or the dvd drive because trying to do the work themselves would have voided the warranty.
It's pointed at the fact that Apple does not like you doing anything to customize, modify, or personalize their products because they are "already perfect the way they were made". Doing pretty much anything to an Apple product will void the warranty
