You want to talk about unnecessarily complex, overarching, and idiosyncratic Just pick a faction and look up the lore on them, RE will read like a young adult novel after that.

It is at first, but with a semi decent HOTAS (I have an Logitech X52) once you get used to the pre-flight, %90 of the planes functions are rarely used. Then again I am not the best at this game so take the above with some salt.
