YES. And, what makes it worse, even if he's shown to be of age (18), he's STILL a student in her school and a friend of her son's. There's nothing here that doesn't say "Ugh".
My guess is he's 18+, but held back in school for "reasons", thereby making it completely-not-creepy-at-all for a woman in a position of authority to have an intimate relationship with him.
Yeah, casting a guy who is nearly 30 as a high schooler in this particular instance is a horrible choice. That's exactly what it's there to do. Jennifer Lopez keeps herself looking so young and fit it's like looking at a 35-yo beside him. Doesn't look squicky at all.
No, sorry. If you are an adult who sexually abuses a teenager you do not get to claim victim status.
Hard Candy flipped the tables there with intentional ambiguity and gray area. I agree it's an interesting angle, but I don't think it's a great thing to explore since this film is looking far less gray area than that one was. Too much white hatting the abuser in the trailer. They're both abusers here but this…
I'm going to be the asshole that says it — no, no we can't stop to discuss that, because the issue at hand is statutory rape, and we shouldn't be distracted from it by shiny things.
Seriously? We're going to have to deal with a major hollywood movie that shows a woman in her 40's having an affair with a teenage boy, then makes that out to be HIM abusing HER in some way?
I'm sure they'll cheat somehow by revealing by the end that he's not actually a teen but a 25 year old psychopath and the "uncle" he's living with is dead in a crawlspace somewhere.
Wait. Is he at least 18, and not a former student?
He thought he was 18, officer! I swear! Seriously though, this actor is 26 and looks no where near teenager which allows people to forget that what she does at the beginning of this movie is absolutely revolting. I don't think I'll watch this.
Yeah, it's definitely a weird angle—can you imagine if the roles were reversed? What's interesting here is the fact they seem to counter her abuse of a teenager by highlighting his physical ability to hurt her. We see him with guns, he slams her against a wall, etc.
Can we stop for a moment and discuss why she thought it was a good idea to do a movie sympathetic to pedophilia/ephebephilia and rape?
I like how even in a movie where the child-molesting teacher is a woman, she still manages to wind up as the victim.
This is highly HIGHLY distasteful.
Yup.
Schefter brought that up as well. But as far as I know, Double Jeopardy only applies to US courts...not a private business' policy enforcement.
That loud sound you hear isn't the sound of applause for this move , it's the sound of the Ravens' collective hamstrings snapping from all that backpedaling.
"Better after there is completely damning evidence released that will destroy our brand than never."
I wouldn't be surprised if she thought that too. And that preposterous apology on that even more ridiculous press conference is a big indication that she feels she's at fault too.
The human mind is so fucked up sometimes.
