I expected to be tired of it by now, but I feel like Scrooge swimming in his money bin with all of the superhero shit coming out.

Demanding? No. But that was one of the more unique spins on a fantasy setting I’ve seen in recent memory
if they were that interested in doing a sequel they would have done it well within the 5 years since it came out. the only thing they’ve done with it was that reimagined animesqe cartoon late last year.
Bright was pretty bad and the most memorable thing about it is that it was forgettable. Was anybody really demanding a sequel?
I’ve watched about half of it and like it so far. It kind of feels like a mashup of Lang and Lumet (though the aesthetic is also clearly inspired by the Arkham games, especially the costume design).
It’s always struck me as odd that nobody’s ever made a Law & Order-type procedural based on superhero vigilantes and the cops, lawyers, and politicians who have to work with and against them. Or a show told from the perspective of detectives like the ones in Dark Knight who seem chagrined when Gordon lets a guy in a…
I missed that! So I had to go back and watch after reading this and I’m glad I did.
I am in exactly your boat. Dubious, but this trailer really puts a smile on my face. I just hope they hit the heights of the Dr. Seuss Bible.
If you haven’t seen Death Comes to Town - track it down ASAP. It has some slow moments but overall is genius.
I feel like this one’s flying under the radar (TOO MUCH STREAMING!) so I hope people check it out, mostly because I selfishly want to talk about it with literally anyone!
What does Sam Elliot think about it, though?
there’s nothing wrong with a familiar tale told well, and Eggers certainly has a unique vision. I’m just glad they didn’t cast someone like Jason Momoa. A favorable comparison to Conan is a huge thumbs up in my book LOL.
That was my initial take as well, if anything I was bummed to find out it wasn’t a Conan movie.
It’s actually based of a old Scandinavian legend of Amleth, which in turn is the direct inspiration for Shakespeare’s Hamlet
Yeah, the story is familiar. It’s been done countless times. I would even argue the intro I saw in the trailer looks almost identical to AC Valhalla.
Yep. A familial… uh familiar tale…
Fun fact. Many theaters painted the skies blue on the film emulsion to help the Day For Night scenes and was so terrifying, people had to leave the theaters. Sadly, that paint destroyed the copies that were painted. Also, the blue showed through, making for the first ‘color’ film.
The Spanish Dracula is notable because - even though the script is pretty much a direct translation - the cinematographer stayed on the set during the daytime to watch the American team set up shots, while he crept around the set, finding better angles to shoot for his own film. The result is a more beautiful film…
I agree that the second half is a lot better, but by that point I was tired and wanted the whole thing to be over with. I haven’t rewatched it since.
I liked Planet Terror but Death Proof was a snooze fest for me. The best part of Grindhouse were the fake trailers.
