Randomly came across this article today and it reminded me of this conversation:
I have made peace with the fact that I’m no longer the target audience for many of the movie studios.
Granted, audiences -apart from me!- still love dearly love it, but I kinda want to see something more at this point.
“I get where you’re going but these films also share one other similarity: They were all very “long” works that the studios, I feel, were scared to release as they were.”
It’s worth noting, too that Zack Snyder, a perpetual punching bag for some ‘round these parts, has stated that both the theatrical and extended versions of Sucker Punch, the only two versions available on home video, are not what he envisioned in the film and that the studios took the film from his hands.
The book is fine. It’s also pretty short as King novels go, so there’s not a lot of flab to cut.
That’s what written in the DVD booklet, anyway. Both Scott and Jeunet (director of Resurrection) say point-blank that their prefered version is the theateical, but the studio asked for an alternate, and so they did one. Only Cameron endorse the Director’s Cut of his movie. Fincher just declined to do one, or to be…
I guess you could say
In a world of chaos, only one man can bring order. “The pieces are falling in to place”. A new foundation can be built. “Dammit I’m the President of the United States and I said DROP NOW”. Dwayne Johnson in...
It’s awesome that you caught yourself. I was guilty of doing exactly what he warned against a few times before I worked with him, and I felt like such an ass looking back on it.
Please don’t deny fans of the original cuts of these films the ability to enjoy the versions they like the most.
I’ve read a couple of Lucas bios (including the very fine Brian Jay Jones book from 2016) and I don’t remember reading anything about Lucas harboring any professional resentment towards Marcia. It can’t have helped his ego that she left him for a housepainter hired to work on his new house in Marin, but I don’t think…
It’s just complete shit and clashes with the style and tone of the movie.
I have a digital copy of the 1982 Blade Runner that I bought from iTunes about a decade ago. It’s in 1080p, no 4K or HDR/Dolby Vision options. The disc has all the audiovisual bells and whistles, but it’s the 2007 recut.
He really seemed to be embarrassed by the movies in their original state, on a technical level at least.
Lucas’s stance is hypocritical because he championed the preservation of films, except for the films he personally owned.
In total fairness
After this whole issue came up recently, I do remember that seemed to be the most prevailing theory, and I think JJ even kind of hinted that the original “despecialized” editions were off limits.
I’m sure that there was a “no alterations” clause in the Lucasfilm sale. Disney can’t change the movies as they exist, or retcon them out of canon. (Remember how some fans were saying that J.J. Abrams should remake the sequels after The Force Awakens came out? Ah, such young and innocent days.) They also can’t undo…
The members of the C7 Corvette flying roof club would like a word about “quality control” but yes it always is easy to shit on Tesla.
