Sadly, you can only do a long trip on a route that is determined by the presence of superchargers. I can take any route I want, including back roads, and all it might cost me is a couple of gas cans on the roof rack.

You do accurately point out the negatives of an EV versus a ICE car but,for my purposes, the range/charge time is fine. This certainly may not be the case for others and for the reasons you point out!

Musk has long offered other makes the opportunity to partner and use their superchargers, they just have to share in the investment (which is fair, since Tesla footed the cost, as they stood by).

Musk really out to make them available to other cars, but I totally get why he doesn’t; unless something changes in the next 18 months or so, I’m for sure going to buy a Model 3.
