A lot of public libraries offer facilities for this sort of thing; some even circulate USB turntables. It’s certainly worth checking with yours to see if they offer this service.

I’ve never had a battery die on my electronic shopping list either. What’s so hard about charging a phone? Especially when you (presumably) just drove a giant electrical generator to the store in the first place.

Meanwhile, paper list ... Not so readily identified by touch in my pocket. Probably needs unfolded. Where’s the pen to mark off what I bought already?

The specs on Samsung’s release lists NFC under “Payment” and there’s a caveat about it being Samsung Pay only, so...maybe?
