You’d be surprised at how popular Sonic still is. Sonic games always sell a lot more than people realize. They’re still popular with kids, and there’s a very dedicated adult Sonic fandom.

Apparently SEGA didn’t care for the design, but got overruled by higher up producers.  Team Sonic people have been pretty diplomatic, but its not hard to read between the lines.

Wow and go figure, the comments are still toxic. People are never happy anymore. I can’t remember a single instance where a company did this and yet people are still being negative Nancy.

I don’t think you’re wrong but my point still stands. Although they sure as hell had no problem running with it when they put an S&M joke in Sonic X’s Japanese release.

If you don’t like 3D games, comics, and cartoons, fine. But it’s not fair to say the original games had no plot. Robotnik was imprisoning animals in robots to form an army to dominate Mobius, and it was Sonic’s job to stop him. Pretty simple. Don’t know why they had to screw with it.

Here’s my take based on the trailer: The story isn’t necessarily terrible. Jim Carrey’s role as Robotnik, while a lot different from the games, seems decent and funny. The main thing I see that I really dislike is Sonic’s character design. They would have been much better off giving him a much more cartoony design…

At this point it has to be an honor to have your girl leave you for Wolverine, Superman, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Like you said with the Sky Captain trailer, the songs fit the mood of the trailer. Gangster’s Paradise is as far from the tone of what you’d expect from a movie about Sonic the Hedgehog as you could get.

I hope somebody will enlighten me.

This is goddamn nightmare fuel. And the worst part is that my child adores all things Sonic, so I know I’m going to have to suffer through it.

At least the Stargate theme fits the genre and mood of the movie. And didn’t have lyrics wholly inappropriate for the target audience.
