If you liked the Sonic CD intro; you might want to also try the 1996 Sonic OVA, animated by the same company that animated CD. Forgive the dub; it was before ADV knew what the hell they were doing.
The movie was initially announced after this fan film hit in 2014.
Yeah. Sonic’s Japanese handlers have always had some really strange ideas about the series narrative. Back in the ‘90s, Sega of America typically was who reigned them in. But with post hardware Sega, that faction of the company has been neutered of all power and influence, well, has led to some of the escapades like Sh…
This. Sonic Team thought they were being clever by reversing the Prince Charming Death Kiss Trope; unfortunately, they didn’t think about how the western fandom would go on to interpret it.
Kids keep buying them. Sonic is still a very recognied brand to kids.
They weren’t competing cartoons: Adventures was syndicated on weekdays; Sonic The Hedgehog aired on Saturday mornings. The point was to maximize brand exposure, which worked. In ‘93, Sonic was a better-known mascot than Mickey Mouse.
You’re not the only one who liked it, but don’t expect a sequel. It didn’t sell particularly great for a Sonic game on the DS, but a greater reason: the game’s plot was an erstaz take on the Archie Comics Sonic The Hedgehog book. When a former writer leaned of this, he sued Sega and EA/ Bioware for royalties. Last I…
I personally don’t like silent protagonists. They’re anachronistic to me. And Roger Craig Smith’s a good voice actor; it’s too bad the writers rarely ever give him something good to say.
The Sonic Adventure games may not have aged particularly well (Like a lot of other 5th gen-early 6th gen 3D game I might add), but they remain nostalgic favorites among fans.
He was always known as Dr. Eggman in Japan. The short short of it: They changed before Sonic Adventure for naming consistency. Dr. Robotnik is a relic of the old localization days; akin to still calling Bowers “King Koopa”. The fandom’s moved on.
James... Do your research. Don’t be a Kotaku writer. there’s no need to bring up the 2006 game, it’s been ten years. We’ve learned to let go. A pretty good analysis for why the plot for that trainwreck happened can be found here:
2016 Update: Now they’ve added a Mary Sue neighbor girl. This is getting really fucking sad.
Fitting. I can already picture Depp as playing one of those “Mad” scientists with the fashion sense of Freddie Mercury.
Knowing Fox, either in this movie or the next, Wolverine’s going to get incinerated, seemingly to death, down to a few microscopic cells. And then those cells will regenerate, into a younger looking, jacked-but-not-Jackman bod.
Excellent... They’re one step closer towards achieving my Dream: Marvel VS. Capcom: The Movie: The Game.
I get that feeling, too... But maybe it’s just because of Munn. She used to cosplay all the time at her old gig.
The kid in me says: “It’s The Turtles! It’s The Turtles! It’s Krang! It’s Krang! It’s going to be the most awesomest thing!”
The kid in me says “This is the movie I’ve been waiting 20 years for!”
I (oversimplify) it like this: Emmerich & Deviln set out to create the next Star Wars, got incensed when the studio took their creation and instead made the next Star Trek.
