I’ve always used a bowl and then put aluminum foil in it and pour the grease in. Once it cools you can wrap it up and toss it in the trash. Super easy cleanup.

I’ve never cleaned my fireplace this way for the 30+ years of my life. We have a chimney sweep clean it once a year, and then we clean the glass when it’s dirty.

First I’d have a chimney sweep look at it. Secondly, is your fireplace open? Be aware that open fireplaces can actually cool your house down. You might feel heat from it, but the draft is sucking a lot of the hot air into the chimney and out.

I would recommend planning out some meals, with base proteins for example. Cook some chicken in light spices, then for the week you can have: chicken sandwiches, chicken fried rice, bbq chicken, chicken w some pasta, chicken in sauce and veggies, baked chicken, etc.

This list seems very quickly put together.
