Yeah, the Catholics complaining have (according to their doctrine at least) eaten the actual body and drank the actual blood of Christ. This is just a cake, lighten up.

I was going to say maybe a RHD import would be more convenient for someone without a right arm, but this is even better.

That is certainly a theory in modern poli sci that seems to have some truth to it (if for no other reason than making war more expensive makes it less appealing), but that theory is talking about between states. The roman empire was characterized much more by internal rather than international trade.

This is a great piece of writing.

I think you might be getting the causality flipped there. Not so much a case of “trade makes peace” as “massive state investment in infrastructure and the army makes trade.”

I always wondered why that style doesn’t seem to have persisted in Japanese martial arts to any great extent.

Agriculture has caused lots of health problems, it doesn’t mean we should give it up.

Which is too bad. I’d really like to go back to the west. It’s probably just a result of playing too much Fallout 2 as a kid, but I like the western settings better.

Yeah, anyone who thinks that people and groups like this are going to stop with their current targets has been living under a rock.
