There once was a time when you could go anywhere within reason and use your car for towing just about everything. What happened?

Stay away from the early 3.0s with the anything with a cvt

Yes, everything from GM was crap back during the malaise era.  But these, in particular, were even more crap.  That body and frame had all the rigidity of a wet noodle even before you cut the roof for t-tops (which, of course, leaked).  The suspension was complete crap.  The interior was complete dreck.  Within a

A little overrated?  The reality is that they were complete crap even back in the day.

Can we go back to this? I hate SUVs.

That old beast is kinda gorgeous in the best malaise era sort of way.

I was unaware that a van is actually much narrower, if at all, than an 88 Ranger bed.

Yeah, this. Spend $1k on a trailer, then either $4k fixing that Ford or buying something else, anything else, that has a trailer hitch.

I can fit my rider in the back of my ‘ol danger ranger without any problems. But I could see a larger mower being an issue.

I didn’t even go to the trailer option. You can also do the small SUV/trailer combo.

This is the best answer.

A half ton, up to a 42 inch deck or so, yes.  Any of the compact trucks our non-mower owning Jalopnik writers suggested? No.

Dude a panther body could tow a decent sized boat if the brakes were good. Those are beasts.

I recently sold a walk behind tractor (weighs about 500 pounds) to a guy who towed it away on a trailer with a Grand Marquis. With a decent utility trailer, an old Panther body car can tow several large mowers. I’d go with that route if Daniel has space for a vehicle and a trailer. When he does eventually get a truck,

you are both pussies.  eat a sloppy joe while wearing a full face helmet on a crotch rocket on the Kank in the rain.

I would like to see a Tesla fooled by this

Good luck finding any of the Japanese cars in this condition and mileage for anywhere close to $20k.

There’s a lot of factors to it from where I’m standing, and I sell a ton of cars for a living. For starters, wholesale values are auction values. I don’t expect to pay auction value for a private or dealer sold car. It’s sweet if you can pull it off but I definitely don’t see many guys start their advertised price

This. If you’re going to rock a Rad-vintage Camaro, go with the T-tops. Grow your mullet. Wear an A-line undershirt. Rename yourself Brad. Punch nerds. Go all in on the Camaro life.

The problem with the “slow” statements are that everything else got faster, and more expensive over the past 3 decades.  For its’ day, it WAS fast, but quite a few things have changed for the better since.
