very difficult thing to answer - ford’s total YTD margin is about 4% - last quarter was a half a percent - on any given product line the contribution to margin will vary substantially - however, generally in the auto industry, the margin comes more from parts than from whole goods (cars/trucks). So in all likelihood,…
i’m arguing that this is garbage journalism first - secondly Arthur’s idiotic bad math (100K vs 1BB) - thirdly the dumb notion that 5% of the cost of a car is in labor (implying that on a $50K Exploder that there’s only $2,500.00 in ‘labor’ or roughly 50 total man-hours of union ‘labor’ baked into that entire car’s…
at least its honest...and relatively polite way of saying take it or leave it.
I just bought a new Jeep Cherokee for my mom last week (couldn’t talk her out out of the Cherokee for emotional reasons)....I’ve seen a lot of things over the years of buying 50+ cars - but the opacity and games that the CJDR dealers played was really terrible. I was looking for a ‘commodity’ car - one that exists…
“When you’re fighting over only 5% of the cost, you have to ask yourself: ‘Why are we doing this?’” [Arthur Wheaton, director of the Worker Institute at Cornell University] said. “Why risk a billion to save $100,000?”
you either argue for equality and accept the results of equality, or you argue ‘protect the weaker sex’ - and not. I argue that women are equal, and deserve no special treatment - neither the ugly stuff nor the protectionism. She can take care of herself - she doesn’t need you internet warriors to protect her.
the experience of this site is poor - for that reason - I get it, and support making money - but it’s way too heavy if it can’t load properly and quickly on a modern machine, which it can’t.
yup - undesirable when new - not better when worn out. CP - a million better ways to spend 5 grand.
i’m still married to my first ex wife of 28 years as well....despite the fact she makes me keep an old Jeep alive. better than i deserve.
87+ the 5.0 was WAY better than the earlier ones - that basket case you found on CL is probably fair priced at $2500, but it will be another 5-10 grand to make it not a POS. You’d def be better off with one of the ‘done’ ones - less money, less risks. But you’d be FAR better off with a 1994 or later Mustang…
and an Expedition will do even better for cheaper than the Denali, either of which are better than some German moneyhole to satisfy Picky Patty
or the wife won’t survive the Lexus....depends on which you’re more interested in keeping long term....could go either way.
frig off Randy
math is a bitch....fortunately, you can ignore math here on the interwebs most of the time. well done post - that took some actual effort, that I was curious about, but don’t have the knowledge handy to do on my own.
if Aaron were a girl, you’d be called a misogynistic pig for saying that...unless he is....or was....or is about to be....it’s getting harder and harder to tell who will be offended in the future about something you said in the past
I’ve had a dozen of them, stock, converted to J-tubes, etc.....in theory it works, and in reality it works somewhat, sometimes....slightly better than nothing, and you’re relying on the cables not being frozen or broken - but you’re still bundled up in a coat and gloves the entire time when it’s cold, and buddy, it’s…
my farts generate more heat than a Karmann Ghia....
you’ll wish you bought a carb car the first time that box takes a shit.
How hard can it possibly be to maintain? Every customer that has any old vw = never adjusts brakes, never adjusts valves, actually never does any of the simple maintenance that it requires about every thousand miles....
