Yes, please, let's all make fun of the fellow who dares to self-deprecatingly explore fantasy worldbuilding.

…and Americans OTOH want to know what it's got to do with anything. It's always second-hand, anyway.
man, Disqus can be annoying. Either something killed your response or it's just not showing. (I know they have a weird CDN system that sometimes makes it look like things have been deleted when they're just in limbo…) Oh well, anyway: I get it. I still think it was remarkable there wasn't a blow-up. People fly off the…
I don't have a dog in this one (my Irish ancestors were Norman transplants), but I must say the Scots & Irish on this thread seem to be showing remarkable restraint for an Irish or Scottish person facing the implication that they're no different from the English.
His Bond was a poshly English as they came, though. What's important is that they can do the accent. & FWIW, Elba's magnificent with accents, though personally, I wouldn't wish this part on him. I like the guy; Bond (especially to the standard of physicality Craig's established & Elba would probably also aspire to)…
Why, Mister Coogin, I do believe you're trying to pick a fight….
yeh, i mean, do people really even talk about "hell's kitchen" anymore, outside the MCU? I don't think it's been a truly distinct neighborhood since the '40s. now, it's just 'between this street & that.' Once upon a time it was notable because it meant something to survive growing up there.
Loved Mahershala Ali. He managed to signal this very deep sense of frustration that makes Cottonmouth a lot more human for me. That guy's gotta be going places, or there is no justice in hollywood.
I don't think I mentioned anything important that's not in a trailer. The Method Man cameo is prominently featured in one, and knowing that he actually does something meaningful to the plot isn't so much a spoiler as it is a teaser. & re. "Night Nurse", I've basically just seconded what's been teased by Marvel.
I guess where I'd go right offhand is that there is all that to critique. You were able to write 7 eloquent paragraphs & still not come to a conclusion — generally, I think that's probably a good thing. It means we've got something to chew on.
A lot of Daredevil series 1 comes close, but I think you're right — this is solid all the way through & in just about every facet. (I'm only qualifying because I'm sure there's *something* wrong, somewhere — I don't know what it is, though.)
casting for this was incredibly tight. they've gone the extra mile to make sure that even supporting roles get great players. Simone Missick & Frank Whaley nail the partner-patter, & Ali is wonderful as Cottonmouth — he's fiercely competent, ambitious, complex. This doesn't really do justice to the music, which is…
… except that 'fantasy masquerading as "intellectual stimulation"' pretty much describes Dinesh D'Souza's entire career. Which career I've followed since it started, BTW, with increasing bemusement.
this makes me want to watch it. a little. but not very much. honestly i've only got so much time and I'd rather catch up on Archer or Kimmy Schmidt. I'll get a lot more intellectual stimulation that way.
not sure if you're joking, but you may have a point. Life is Beautiful made me physically ill in a lot of places.
the conceit that SS would actually give that much of a shit is one of the most offensive parts.
Some interesting ideas. Could have used a serious devil's advocate in the development process, though.
Sometimes you use the example of a dictator to illustrate why leadership by mutual agreement (e.g. the stronger Bigwig following the wiser, more judicious Hazel) works better.
Or we could not make it a requirement that every adaptation be judged for precisely what kind of a statement it makes w.r.t. the mores & standards of a subset of modern humans.
No, more like for most people getting into it, it's just train-jumping at this point.
