Depends what they do. For my in-laws we got them Chromebooks - damn near impossible to screw up and for my wife's aunt - Ubuntu. No problems since we did that.

There's one exception to the powerpoint as a cue for presentation. There are some places where the culture is for powerpoints to be emailed around so they need to have enough explanation on their own.

They won because I was used to Adobe software and so I preferred it to relearning everything in GIMP and DigiKam.
