Here’s an idea: If the Air Force doesn’t want to conduct effective close air support missions, let the Army do it. Give them the A-10 and the CAS mission. “But the Army can’t fly fixed wing aircraft in combat!” BS: That’s just a 60-year-old doctrinal agreement that assumed the Air Force would actually support the Army.
Aegis on an amphib is an expensive addition that should never be used. Keep in mind these ships are designed for landing the 700 marines, not surface warfare. Let the gator navy do its job.
