There were some timing chain tensioner issues with the SOHC Cologne V6's in the early '00s, I had an '04 4.0L Ranger that I put 116,000 trouble free miles on before I traded it in for a Jetta TDI. The pushrod ones were very reliable.

The F150 may be a porker, but with that engine and 4:10 gears, it still has a good power/weight ratio. There isn't much out there now that's comparable to the lil scrappy Dakota R/T, or the sleeper Dakota w/the 4.7, or the SRT 10, or the Lightning for that matter.
